Sub-cent accuracy
Which is what tuning actually needs — a cent at A4 is about a quarter of a hertz. The reading updates around twenty times a second, so the needle moves with the peg rather than after it.
No octave errors
Bowed and plucked strings put more energy into their harmonics than their fundamental, which is what makes naive tuners jump an octave. Nitpitch resolves the fundamental instead of the loudest partial.
Read it at a glance
The error fills the gap between a fixed needle and your note, so in tune is nothing at all rather than a pointer you have to judge. Underneath, a row of lights spaced logarithmically — fine near the centre, where tuning happens.
Any reference you play at
A=390 through 466, a hertz at a time. 440 by default; European orchestras commonly sit at 442 or 443, and baroque ensembles at 415.
Your notation
Note names in English, German (H for B♮, B for B♭), Italian solfège, or the Japanese iroha names — shown alongside the scientific pitch, so there's never any doubt which octave you're in.
Nothing leaves the device
Audio is analysed frame by frame in memory and discarded. No recording, no network — the Mac build doesn't even carry the network entitlement, so the sandbox enforces it rather than merely documenting it.
